Abstract
Objective: The relationship between the micro-organism and the method or habit for tooth-brush management, was calcu-lated in order to know the proper way to suggest for tooth brush storage.
Methods: A 100 subjects who agreed to participate in this study sent their toothbrushes as the study material and the amount of micro-organism on the toothbrush was measured by ATP measurer. Their behaviors on using the toothbrushes and how they manage them were surveyed, and the periodontal pocket depth and oral health condition were examined. SPSS 12.0 was used for statistical analysis, Pearson’s correlation coefficient test, one way ANOVA test, and Scheffe were used for the following results.
Results: Toothbrush micro-organism amount and dental caries (r=?.095, p=.346), periodontal pocket depth (r=?.060, p=.553) showed no correlation. Toothbrush micro-organism amount and number of brushing times (r=.201, p=.045), number of toothbrush (r=.248, p=.013), toothbrush replacement period (r=?.247, p=.025) showed a correlation. Toothbrush clean-ing method, toothbrush micro-organism amount according to the storage place showed no significant correlation (p＞0.05).
Conclusion: It was recommended to manage the tooth brush storage method can be introduced as to get one more tooth brush, frequently exchange of tooth brush and clean well with dry after use the tooth brush, in order to reduce the micro-or-ganism at the tooth brush.
